Knitted Textile Awards 2012

1st prize £1,000, 3 further prizes of £350 each!

Open to all undergraduates and those graduating in 2012.

Dynamic, innovative design - dramatic fashion - idiosyncratic furnishings - intriguing artworks - knitting and crochet in all its guises.

Work will be judged on originality, overall concept and the innovative use of technique, yarns, materials and colour. Entries can be selected from existing course work where applicable.

The competition is open with immediate effect and photographs of your entered piece(s) should be sent along with your contact details on reverse side of each photograph to the address below. Closing date for photographs is 3rd July 2012.  If selected, you will be notified via email during 3rd week of July.  Please ensure we have your correct contact details for that period.

We also require a 50-60 word statement about your work to be sent with your photographs. This can be emailed or a hard copy.

Please ensure we have your correct contact details for that period. 15 -20 entries will be selected for the finalist's exhibition which will be staged at the Knitting and Stitching Shows Autumn 2012- Alexandra Palace 11th - 14th October and Harrogate 22nd - 25th November.

Selected finalists (or someone suitable nominated by them) will be expected to set up the day before each show (10th October and 21st November) and dismantle their allocated display area at both venues and to be in attendance for the duration of each exhibition.  At the end of the last exhibition on 25th November, you can take your work home.

Prior to the shows, finalists can seek expert advice from our professional curator to help with presentation and marketing.  The Awards provide an excellent opportunity for media exposure for your work and you will gain first hand experience in all aspects of staging an exhibition as well as promotion and marketing.  You are also encouraged to present your portfolio and sell small items of your work at the shows.

The judging panel includes textile industry professionals and sponsors of the awards.
