KNITTING IN SCHOOLS

The UK Hand Knitting Association in partnership with The Crafts Council launched an initiative to encourage knitting back into the classroom in 2010. Now, with the support of the WI, the aim is to have a knitting craft club in every school.

Passing On Skills At 'Living Crafts' Hatfield (May 2013)

Knitting Stand at Living Crafts
Teaching children to crochet
Teaching children to knit

Chris Taylor has written to tell us about her time at this year's Living Crafts at Hatfield teaching visitors to knit and crochet:
" Last year I was sent some goodies so that I could teach people to knit at a Folk Festival to be held locally. This year - last weekend - I continued to use the needles, crochet hooks and yarn as I had the privilege of teaching people to knit and crochet at Living Crafts held at Hatfield House in Herts. I also had a lot of children asking to learn. Because of time I decided that each child would be better off making a bracelet out of finger knitting - but I did encourage the parents to give one of your leaflets about knitting in schools to their Headteacher and I also spoke about it to several Brown Owls from Brownie packs.
Delighted to be able to help to get it Out There and I hope you have some follow up calls."
