THE KNITTED GARDEN
Welcome and thank you for visiting our 'Knitted Garden' information page.

.....Jane Bolsover

Back in the Spring, Christine Kingdom of the BHKC and I put our heads together trying to come up with an exciting community knitting idea, that we could exhibit through the ICHF shows during 2006 and 2007.

We tossed many ideas into the pot and finally came up with the idea of a 'life-sized' knitted garden!

"What fun we thought" and I'm pleased to report that you did too!

We've already had a fantastic response from knitters and crocheters all over the country and gradually, as you can see from the images below, we're starting to amass a wonderful garden.

BUT we still need your help. So please do come along to an ICHF show and help on our 'Knit 'n' Natter' stands, or contact me personally on the number below, with your pledges.

I'm especially looking for groups who feel they may be able to help with the creation of the 'Veg plot' and anyone with a knitting machine who feels that they can tackle the lawn or soil for the veg plot!

Look forward to hearing from you, keep on knitting…

THE KNITTED GARDEN

Where you can see the finished project

This autumn ICHF Ltd (The International Craft & Hobby Fairs Ltd) will be unveiling the world's first life-sized 'Knitted Garden' at it's Creative Stitches & Hobbycrafts shows.

Sponsored by the BHKC (British Hand Knitting Confederation) and Simply Knitting magazine: everything in the garden has been lovingly knitted or crochet by members of the public over the past year.

This show-stopping garden is a unique creation, which includes everything you would find in the garden from a deckchair and a vegetable plot, to a goldfish pond with frogs and a picnic laid-out on a rug.

The garden is certainly a riot of colour with its hand-worked blooms, bumble bees buzzing around their hive, a spider in its web, and a ladybird scuttling over a plant pot. There's so much to excite and inspire in this garden, that a visit is simply a must!

The garden will be showing at:

Creative Stitches & Hobbycrafts: Westpoint Centre, Exeter, 21-24 September 2006

Fashion & Embroidery: Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, 6-8 October 2006

Creative Stitches & Embroidery: International Arena, Cardiff, 17-19 November 2006

Creative Stitches & Hobbycrafts: The Brighton Centre, Brighton, 9-11 February 2007 SECC,

Creative Stitches: SECC Glasgow, 8-11 March 2007

Sewing for Pleasure: NEC, Birmingham, 29 Mar-1 April 2007
