A place where like-minded crafters can meet, discuss ideas, learn new skills and shop for their annual craft supplies.

Edinburgh is the city of festivals, but since 2019 it’s been missing an important one: a yarn festival! We’re bringing a new event to Scotland’s capital to celebrate knitters, crocheters, weavers, spinners and fibre lovers with a festival of crafts, workshops, talks, food, music and good company. Our team is dedicated to building an event with a large community and cooperative focus that will be a welcoming and safe space for everyone. We can’t wait to welcome you to The Woolly Good Gathering!

Improvers will learn to knit with two colours in a lacey stitch pattern, following a commercial pattern. Materials (2 balls James C. Brett Chunky with Merino) provided for your lesson. Please select two contrasting colours from our range when booking. You will leave with knowledge, a pattern and instructions to complete your project at home, or you can attend our regular Craft and Chatter sessions for further support, on the 3rd Thursday monthly.

Building on last year's inaugural event

The largest, award winning wool and fibre festival, a must for knitters, crocheters, weavers, spinners and dyers. Everything from sheep, fleece, yarn, equipment, workshops and inspiration in abundance.

Lace knitting can look difficult and complicated, but this shawl has been designed by Judith to be simple and easy to knit from a detailed pattern. The addition of beads provides that extra something, whilst opening a whole new world of possibilities for personalising your knits if you’ve never tried it before. During the workshop we will explore simple lace stitches & techniques which can be used for applying beads to your knitting. We will also look at reading lace knitting charts.

Join Liz on Thursday 8th May for an informal 2-hour Knitting session where Improvers will make a headband or narrow scarf. You will learn to: • Combine a variety of stitches for texture, including reverse stocking stitch • Knit simple cables • Join a seam using a neat bind-off technique, rather than stitching up • Work with chunky or super chunky yarn of your choice Materials: 100g Chunky or Super Chunky yarn provided for your lesson. Start on the workshop, finish at home, or you can attend our regular Craft and Chatter sessions for further support, on the 3rd Thursday afternoon monthly.
